Stream Trail Loop Hike

"Newcomers to Redwood Regional Park are often amazed at the beauty of this trail. After all, whoever heard of redwood forests and trout streams in Oakland? But visitors to this park know that you get both of these things here. You will climb along the western slopes of the redwood canyon, rising to 1000 feet. With the puffing behind you, (always hike up when you are fresh), you'll take the Fern Trail to junction with the Stream Trail. The rest of the route back to the park entrance is easy and downhill, tracing along pretty Redwood Creek through the center of the redwood forest. 3.5 miles/2.5 hours hiking time. Difficulty Rating: 2 out of 5. Beauty Rating: 8 out of 10. Meeting Place TBD. Call Paul Mugnier for details: 415 431-2422. Reserve online.

Valentine's Day Benefit for RCC

Come join us for our annual Valentine's Day fundraiser held at Club 1220 in Walnut Creek. If you have attended any of these in the past you know they are a fun evening out and they benefit a good cause too. This year, MAX has selected the Rainbow Community Center (RCC) of Contra Costa County as our recipient of this fundraiser. We will have a fashion show with runway models featuring clothing from that hip new store in Walnut Creek, Atlas. Then we'll throw in the talents of some of the areas top drag performers: Holotta Tyme, Jelousy, Deana Jones, Kitty Litter and Leyla Down. Tip well because all their tips are being donated too. We'll also have a 50/50 raffle with some terrific prizes. Send someone you love a Valentine for just $2 too. Just $5 at the door gets you in to all this fun. And remember, all the money collected goes to the RCC from MAX. If you are able to donate an item or service for the raffle worth $25 or more, please let Tom Lewenz know by contacting him at (925) 932-8330 or by email. Let's all turn out and make this event something special! Club 1220 is at 1220 Pine Street in Walnut Creek (925-938-4550).

Widow Norton's Pilgrimage To Joshua's Grave

EMPEROR NORTON’S MEMORIAL - It’s time for “Emperor Norton’s Widow” to make her annual pilgrimage to her late husband’s grave. Let’s join Her, the current and former Empresses and Emperors, the myriad of participants, entertainers, and onlookers as they act out a campy tongue-in-cheek memorial service to the somewhat mad man who San Francisco embraced until his death. Jose raised funds until there was a beautiful granite tombstone erected on Emperor Joshua Norton’s grave (and, of course, a matching tombstone on her adjoining plot). There will be free beverages, bagels, etc. and fun entertainment for everyone in attendance. There is a bus pick-up at the Ramada Plaza Hotel Lobby at 8am and at Marlena’s at 8:30am to make the trip to Woodlawn Memorial Park, 100 El Camino Real, Colma. Others may choose to take their own transportation! See the pictures from last year's pilgrimage!
