Music for Michael Mouse
The San Francisco Gay Men's Chorus with Armistead Maupin. This
afternoon concert at Davies Hall will feature readings from the "Tales
of the City" by Armistead Maupin. The SF Gay Men's Chorus will
create musical scenes evocative of those times and settings that were
captured so wonderfully in this quintessentially San Francisco series of
novels. You can expect a rousing rendition of "San Francisco," a song by
Michael Tolliver in his underwear, and other over-the-top sensations.
For more information about the show visit the Chorus' website at
www.sfgmc.org. An
optional brunch at noon will precede the 2 pm show. Tickets are $37 for
members and $40 for guests. For reservations and information contact A&E
champion Hal Seip at 775-7571. After your reservation has been
confirmed, be sure to write "Michael Mouse" on the memo line of your
check and send it in to the
MAX office.

August 13-15, Lassen Park Campout
Lassen Volcanic National Park Campout
Wanna go to Yellowstone to see the geysers but have enough time for only
a three-day weekend? Forget that tired old Yellowstone! Sign up now for
the MAX campout at Lassen Volcanic National Park, Friday, August 13 to
Sunday, August 15. Lassen, located 45 minutes east of Red Bluff, is one
of the least visited of California’s national parks, but its scenery
rivals Yosemite. Like Yellowstone, Lassen has bubbling mud pits, steam
vents, fumaroles, hot ground, and geysers. Unlike Yellowstone, it has a
partially carbonated lake and a 10,500' dormant volcano whose peak is
always partially covered in snow. The cost of the trip is $40 per
person, which includes food, drink and the campsite fee; park admission
is $10 per car. Several hikes of varying exertion levels are planned.
For further details, see the July printed MAXReport, or contact Seth at 326.5332 or Tim at 584.9408.

August MAXReport Articles
TGIF Remains at the City Club
No, we are not playing musical chairs. We were planning to make move
TGIF to the Citicourt Café, but after further discussions with the City
Club, MAX has decided to keep TGIF events at the 10th floor club for the
near future. We have been at the City Club so long that it is hard for
many of our members to think of TGIF at any other place, said Chairman
Rick Sneed. After nine years, it is hard to break the habit of showing
up at the City Club on Friday afternoons. MAX TGIF events are scheduled
through the end of the year at the City Club, including the first and
third Fridays of August, September, and November. In October, the first
Friday TGIF will be at the City Club as usual, but the third Friday we
are holding a special TGIF at the Citicourt Café. In December, we plan
to continue our tradition of TGIF at Neiman Marcus on Union Square.
Started in 1989 as an after-work cocktail party held once a month, TGIF
moved to the City Club in 1990 and became so popular that it was
expanded to twice a month the following year. Today, TGIF is our largest
and most visible activity, attracting more than 300 people each month.
This year, MAX expanded the concept to include a South Bay TGIF on the
second Friday (Sunnyvale Hilton) and in the East Bay (Walnut Creek
Marriott) on the fourth Friday of each month. Combined with special
Fifth Friday events at various locations in the city, MAX members and
guests can attend a TGIF somewhere in the Bay Area virtually every
Friday of the year. Awesome! By the way, TGIF just doesn’t happen by
itself. It takes a lot of people to make it work smoothly. We need
people to check in members and guests, work the membership table, and
coordinate special activities. Helping with TGIF is a great way to meet
lots of people, said Chairman Rick Sneed. You would be surprised how
many people you get to know by working the door for 45 minutes. If you
are interested in helping with TGIF at the City Club, please contact
Robert Moon @ 751.9659. Robert is filling in as our temporary TGIF
Director. To help with the MAXSouth TGIF call Stuart McFaul @ 941.6279. To help with the East Bay TGIF, call Gil Rose @ 735.1333.
