MAXonline Web Site

Our Web Site

MAXonline is the Internet home of MAX. Complete with information about the organization and descriptions of activities, almost anything you want to know about MAX is here. About the only thing missing is the marital status of our officers, and since they all have email addresses, you could probably find that out, too!

Our web site is updated nearly every day, so you'll find the very latest about MAX's goings-on here at MAXonline.

Future Web Site Plans

We have great plans for the MAX web site, including features to automate some of the club's functions. Future plans include a database of events to assist the event champions in their duties, and an opt-in membership database where MAX members can place their pictures and profile, all online. Many of the tasks to keep MAXonline running do not require programming skills, so if you're interested in helping with MAXonline, let us know! Some skills needed are e-mail list maintenance, event liaison, html and database coding, and photo coordinator. We are now using Frontpage, which is easy to use, so if you'd like to learn it along with us, join in! Contact the MAXonline webmaster.

History

MAXonline was built using Microsoft FrontPage and published on the Web in November 1996. It retained its original design in most aspects for two years, and constantly had feature pages added and removed as various MAX events became the focus of attention. One of our first web pages looked like this back in December 1996. Many of MAXonline's web pages have been archived on the WayBackMachine at www.archive.org.

In January 1998, FrontPage98 became the authoring tool, and all pages received an update, along with many hand-coding tweaks of the HTML to improve loading time. In March of 1999, Visual InterDev became the authoring tool to facilitate a complete redesign of the site. At that time, there was a physical relocation of the site to Via Net.Works (formerly IMConline) in Atlanta.

In October of 1999, we switched to using Frontpage 2000. After a two year search for a reasonable ecommerce solution, we implemented a system in February 2001 containing many components. AdminiShare handled the merchant account, and our web site passes shopping cart items via forms through a secure server to VeriSign. This  allowed us to offer online credit card payments for MAX events, and was well accepted by our members.

Year 2002 found us using FrontPage 2002 which has many user enhancements. In March 2002, we switched our web hosting to Alameda Hosting, a local Alameda company, although their server is in Illinois. And, we started using Acteva so MAX members and guests can pay online for MAX events.

In 2004, we moved our web hosting to GoDaddy, a firm with a strange name but economical and good support. With our site now on a Windows server, we will be able to use more features of ASP and Microsoft online databases. FrontPage 2003, while having a few bugs, has some great features which are employed by the three people maintaining our web site.
