| The History of the Green Room Gala
The Green Room Holiday
Gala is celebrating its 50th anniversary on the first Saturday evening in December, 12/3/2005.
Many MAX Members may not know the sweet story about how this
party got started, a verrry long time ago: Two very forward thinking
and compassionate "bachelors" decided to host a party
during the Holidays for all their single, and for the most part,
childless friends. Everyone was to bring unwrapped childrens gifts,
which were then distributed to the kids in the City who were without
parental support, the wards of San Francisco Juvenile Court.
These are the abused, neglected and abandoned children who had no
public funds available to them for any meaningful expression or
celebration of the Holidays. The toys were distributed by the
Volunteer Auxiliary of the Youth Guidance Center, beginning in 1954,
and that tradition continues to this day.
As there are so many more children to serve today, the Green Room
Holiday gala has been the opportunity for guests to donate dollars,
which are used to purchase gifts at wholesale prices throughout the
year, for presentation to the children during the Holidays.
Many years ago, MAX adopted the Gala as its official Holiday
party, and MAX members have been the vital all
volunteer force to make the evening happen.
So start your Holidays with an evening of free flowing wines and
spirits, a truly wonderful buffet, music and dancing until
midnight. Bring your friends, get dressed up and celebrate, it is
always a wonderful party of reunions with fellow MAXers and also a
great place to meet new friends.
