| MAXoutreach creates opportunities for MAX
members to provide volunteer and financial support to San Francisco
community organizations. The committee plans and coordinates regular
fundraising and awareness events designed to introduce MAX members to
local volunteer groups in the gay community. Several MAX events have
grown to be annual events, raising thousands of dollars for charities.
MAX Fundraising Events: When a month has five Fridays, a
special MAX TGIF is held. These TGIFs are called MAX FIFTHfridays and
are held at interesting local spots such as Gucci, Gumps, The Palace
Hotel, The LGBT Center and even the Eagle Tavern. Members and guests pay
a donation at the door and participate in a special raffle to raise
money for local worthwhile agencies. In the past, FIFTHfridays have
raised more than $4,000 each for the Richmond Ermet AIDS Foundation,
Shanti, the Tsumani Swim Club and other groups.
Another fundraising event implemented by the MAXoutreach committee is
the Green Room Holiday Party.
At the 48th Annual Green Room Holiday Party in December 2002, more than
$35,000 was raised. Proceeds of this event purchase toys for the kids
from the San Francisco Youth Guidance Center.
The MAXfund was established to raise
money from events as large as a cruise party on a Hornblower Yacht, to
intimate private birthday bashes, anniversaries and a not so intimate
Beer Bust at The Eagle Tavern. The MAXoutreach committee implements
these events and seeks out some very worthy non-profits who represent
Arts, Sports, Health Services, Education and Community areas, to receive
contributions each year. In 2002 we distributed $500 each to 10
organizations: Stop AIDS Project, Rainbow Community Center of Contra
Costa County, Servicemembers Legal Defense Network, The Half Baked
Players at Theatre Rhinoceros, Immune Enhancement Project, San Francisco
Art & Film for Teenagers, The New Conservatory Theater, Aguilas, Queer
Youth Training Collaborative, and the Jon Sims Center for the Arts.
If you wish to make a donation to The MAXfund, we have a
donation form, which
you can print and then mail to MAX with your donation.
