FIGURE DRAWING CLASS

Gifted artist Les Barnett is graciously sharing his talents and one of his wonderful models for another day of studying and sketching the magnificence of the male form. Instruction will include some still life, perspective, and fundamentals of drawing and sketching, with the majority of time spent on figure sketching the male nude. Instructor Les Barnett has tremendous insight into figure drawing and is willing to share his experience with us as we learn and experiment with this form of drawing. While he wants us to learn from this experience he knows that this can be a fun and casual way to spend time together and enjoy ourselves in a constructive manner. MAX's first session with Les Barnett in February was a resounding success!

Barnett is a graduate of The Cooper Union, New York City. He studied in both the U.S. and Europe and was the creative head of a New York and San Francisco communications firm. He directed the work of artists such as Norman Rockwell and Andy Warhol and has had recent exhibits in New York’s Soho and Chelsea.

Participants can bring their own lunches or order a deli lunch. Admission is $35.00 (Members) / $45.00 (Guests). Reserve online or contact Ken Wrasse at  591-1546 for further information including a list of absolute must-have items for the class. Sunday, August 18th, 10am - 4pm
MAXdads at Ardenwood Historic Farm

Come meet with the other MAX dads and their kids in a casual family setting. This event is for MAX dads to meet other MAX fathers, MAXdad partners meeting each other and the kids just having a good old-fashioned time! (By the way, if you can't bring your children along we still want to see you there!)

We'll meet at Ardenwood Historic Farm in Fremont. Ardenwood offers an experience like no other; it gives you a taste of farm life like it was 100 years ago. Draft horses still pull wagons, railcars and plows. The grounds are graced by the historic Patterson House, a unique mansion which has been restored to its original elegance. Weekend programs include planting, tending and harvesting of Ardenwood's organic crops, farm chore demonstrations, and hands-on experiences for the whole family. Fresh picked organic vegetables are sold just inside the main gate and the farmyard, mansion and gardens are wheelchair accessible. From 10:30am to 1:30pm stop by the country kitchen for a taste of the past. Discover some fascinating food history. See why cooking outside always makes food taste better and sample a cookie or a biscuit straight from the wood-burning stove. At 3pm help slop the hogs, check the henhouse for eggs, and bring hay to the livestock.

Admission cost is $5.00. Lunch will be picnic style with everyone bringing one item to share. Some food and beverage can be purchased on-site. Registration is required before August 10th so that we know how many picnic tables to reserve and to allow for car-pooling.

Ardenwood Farm is located at 34600 Ardenwood Blvd in Fremont, phone  796-0199. Visit www.ebparks.org/parks/arden.htm where you'll find directions and other information.

Saturday, August 24th, 9am-3pm
Seacliff Beach Sun Studs

Note: event has been cancelled

Summer is quickly arriving and we all know what that means! It's time for all you stud muffins (who have been working those abs and buns at the gym) to show off! The MAXsouth boys are hosting a beach party at Seacliff State Beach, on Saturday August 24th starting at 9am. (Hey! Let's see some of the Santa Cruz MAXers at this event!)

It's most likely been a year since we've all ridden the waves, so let us remind you of a few items not to forget. Sunscreen for your tender skin, to protect you against those nasty UV rays, or sun-tan lotion for you bolder ones. Also, bring along some shoe wear, either zories or sandals, and sun glasses to give you that special mysterious look. Last, but not least, a towel to display on (uhhh... lie down on?) to get that California tan that the rest of the nation is so jealous of.

We'll be bbq'g, so bring something to cook and also something to share. Sodas and ice will be provided. (Please note that there are no alcoholic beverages allowed on State Beach property.)

Sign-up is $5 ($10 guest) plus a day-use fee (paid at the park) and a minimum of 10 attendees is required. Directions to the event will be sent upon registration.

The trip includes all food, lodging, and expert instruction by our handsome gay guides. Pretty much everything you need! All physical ability levels are welcomed on these trips, too. Aside from being more fun than you’ve probably had in a long time, this trip benefits a San Francisco-based nonprofit called Healing Waters (www.hwaters.org) which provides outdoor trips for people living with HIV and AIDS. And here’s the best part – for every MAXmember who attends one of the above trips, Healing Waters can afford to send THREE people with HIV on a similar outing.
