Dooley *SOLD
OUT*
Admission: $16 Members/ $16 Guests
Champion: Ken Wrasse/ 591-1546
The Jon Sims Center for the Arts is pleased to invite the men of MAX
to the premiere of the play Dooley, by nationally known
gay playwright Harry C. Cronin. MAX funded a grant to produce the play,
and The Jon Sims Center particularly invites MAX members to this
performance. There will be a food and wine reception to meet the artists
following the show. This will be a very handsome cast and production of
an excellent play, whose subject matter will speak to many of the men of
MAX. Cronin, former McKnight Fellow in playwriting at the Tyrone
Guthrie Theater in Minneapolis and a former Fellow of the National
Endowment for the Arts, is currently on the faculty of the Graduate
Theological Union in Berkeley. The play Dooley, tells the story of the
US government’s official entrapment of Dr. Thomas A. Dooley (1927-1961),
a Navy officer who worked with refugees in French Indochina prior to the
American war in Vietnam. Even though Dooley had achieved the status of a
public hero, and even though he was the primary spokesman for what the
US government wanted to do in Vietnam, he was nonetheless the subject of
a relentless witch-hunt on the part of the Navy because he was gay. This
production of Dooley features the stellar cast of Nick Sholley and
Jayson Mathews under the direction of Alan Quismorio. (VENUE: The Jon
Sims Center for the Arts, 1519 Mission Street (between 11th and South
Van Ness), San Francisco, phone 554-0402).
Note: Dec 6th performance is sold out, but
Dooley is being performed also on Dec 7th, 8th, 13th, 14th, and 15th. To
reserve for one of these dates, call the Jon Sims Center directly at 554-0402.
